The Herbert Restaurant at the Cahernane House Hotel would be nothing without our fantastic team of chefs, kitchen staff and servers. That's why we have asked the staff to choose some of their favourite dishes from the menu that they help to prepare and serve in-house every single day. Just in case you need some knowledgeable advice prior to trying our delicious food.

Our staff went for a French-inspired dish as their favourite starter; a classic white onion soup. This delicious and hearty bowl of onion soup is enough to make you feel right at home and warm you from the inside out, especially with the cooler weather creeping back in. Our soup is served with an accompanying wild boar fritter. The nutty, rich taste of the boar is complemented by some seasonal, organic garden herbs. We’re off to a good start!

The staff pick for the main course is a traditional Irish favourite. We are well-known for our great quality meat in Herbert Restaurant so it’s no surprise that our staff favour the trio of Irish lamb above any other main. We serve rump, shoulder liver of lamb cooked to perfection on a bed of carrots, garden peas and shoots that are all drizzled in a delicious lamb jus. Our lamb is locally sourced from the finest meat purveyor in Kerry and our chef is adept at cooking this fine cut so it is served earthy and juicy with plenty of flavour.

A staff favourite for dessert is a delightful dish that incorporates French elements and a variety of tastes and textures to ignite taste buds. Yes we are talking about our Lemon, Raspberry and Pistachio Choux. In case you are unfamiliar, Choux is a light, crisp, airy pastry often used in profiteroles. Our chefs have paired the pastry with a combination of bitter, sweet and salty flavours, each accentuating a different element of taste. You’ll be treated to notes of lemon, marshmallow, gel and a pistachio crème fraiche.

A Little Treat

As part of our afternoon tea, guests are treated to a variety of delicious home-made scones, just like granny used to make them! Our guests (and our staff!) love the variety of flavours and toppings available for these light, fluffy scones. We offer citrus yeast and golden raisin scones with a choice of accompaniments including lemon curd, raspberry jam Chantilly cream. Our scones, along with the variety of savoury and sweet treats make our afternoon tea an extra special treat and the perfect way to celebrate.

Enjoy a delicious meal and take in your luxurious surroundings in our fine dining restaurant, just two minutes from the INEC in Killarney. If you would like to make a reservation at the Herbert Restaurant or would like more information about our delicious menu options, call us directly or book on our website. And remember, our staff are always happy to help or recommend their favourites.
