Mary returns to Cahernane House Hotel from March 5 – 8th, 2023. She will guide you through the process of creating a painting to capture the beauty of spring flowers. The drawing room of Cahernane House Hotel with its stunning views out to the gardens, the lake, and the Tomie mountains beyond, is the studio for this 3 day event.
Whether you are a beginner or experienced artisit, this will be a wonderful opportunity to enhance your skills and increase your competence using Mary’s simple approach to drawing and painting spring flowers.
More than anything, this will be time for you. Time to rest well, eat well, enjoy nature and immerse yourself in the process of painting the beautiful colours of spring flowers.
Watercolour Painting course includes:
- Getting to know your plant – Examining the structure of the plant more closely. Light and shade to create form in your drawing.
- Grow in confidence- Tips and tricks to demystify colour mixing and matching. Learn, practice and apply controlled washes and layers to master watercolour techniques for painting flowers and leaves.
- Finish with a Wow – Use dry brush watercolour to create detail, texture and depth to elevate your painting to the next level.
Mary Dillon Biography
Capturing the essence of a plant with its sensuality and frailty defines the evocative work of Mary Dillon. Preferring to work in large format, colour, light, and form permeate her watercolour paintings bringing a contemporary dynamism to her work.
Mary’s work was recently awarded ‘Best in Show’ at the American Society of Botanical Artists 25th International Exhibition held in New York. In 2022, her work was among those selected to represent the Watercolour Society of Ireland at the exhibition held in Bilbao during the European Symposium of Watercolour Societies.
Her work belongs in many prestigious collections including the collection of Dr. Shirley Sherwood in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and in the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh.
Mary was the founding Chairperson of the Irish Society of Botanical Artists and enjoys connecting with the worldwide community of botanical artists through teaching and exhibiting.
While fascinated by the personal process of painting, she strives for excellence in her art practice. As an experienced art educator, Mary finds teaching brings together her three passions painting, plants and working with people.
