We’ve secured the advice and wisdom of award-winning artist and tutor, Mary Dillon to guide our students through the process giving expert advice and tuition for everyone from novices to professionals. Mary returns to Cahernane House Hotel from March 5 – 8th, 2023, this time with a focus on creating a painting to capture the beauty of spring flowers. Her classes will take over the (appropriately named) drawing room of our Killarney hotel and enjoy views of the gardens, the lake, and the Tomie mountains beyond, inspiring painters to create something truly beautiful.
Mary Dillon
Mary has an expert eye for painting, especially painting plants and flowers. Her talent for both teaching and painting is rare and wonderful and we are lucky to have such an experienced tutor for our painting escape. Preferring to work in large format, colour, light, and form underpin her watercolour paintings. Mary’s work was recently awarded ‘Best in Show’ at the American Society of Botanical Artists’ 25th International Exhibition held in New York. In 2022, her work was selected to represent the Watercolour Society of Ireland at the exhibition in Bilbao during the European Symposium of Watercolour Societies. Her works belong is some very prestigious collections and museums throughout the world. Mary finds teaching brings together her three passions painting, plants and working with people.
Mary’s Watercolour course includes a module on getting to know your plant better, examining its structure and using light and shade to create form in your drawing. She’ll teach you how to mix and match colours, making it easy for even the most novice student. You can learn, practice and apply controlled washes and layers to master watercolour techniques for painting flowers and leaves. Learn how to finish your painting with dry brush watercolour to create detail, texture and depth to elevate your painting to the next level.
