Christmas in Killarney

Christmas in Killarney is a very exciting time. The streets fill with busy shoppers, thousands of twinkling lights and decorations illuminate the city and the sound of Christmas carols fills the air. The tradition in the city is to kick it all off with a bang in late November and continue the celebrations until the big day arrives. There are parades, ice skating, local craft fairs and of course, a very special visit from the man in red. If you are planning to visit over the festive season, book your stay in Cahernane House Hotel today to avoid disappointment at this busy time of the year. Here is our guide to Christmas in Killarney.

Ice Skating

This year, we are delighted to welcome back Killarney on Ice to Beech Road Car Park, open from November 29th through to the 6th of January 2019. In some cities, ice skating is something they take for granted as it’s available all year round. In Killarney, it’s such a special festive occasion for us and we really take advantage! Step out on the ice for the first time, practise your skills or perfect your pirouette on the real ice rink and enjoy some festive tunes as you skate. If you don’t fancy trying your luck on the ice, relax and enjoy a warm drink in the ice café instead

Craft Fair

Just 5-minutes from Cahernane Hotel, you’ll find a small village called Kilkcullen. This year the Kilcullen Craft fair takes place on Saturday 7th Dec from 6-9pm and Sunday 8th Dec from 11-1pm. Here you’ll find a good selection of homemade Christmas treats, cakes and drinks and many unique gift ideas for yourself or a loved one. You can also visit The Old Flea Market in The Laurels Hall, Old Market Lane where you’ll find a selection of arts, crafts, preloved clothing, baking goods, skincare and eco-friendly products. You can enjoy shopping more knowing that you’re supporting independent local traders.

Carol Service

One of the most special things about Christmas for us is the music. Christmas carols can bring back such good memories of happy times or get us into the festive spirit and excited for the big day. This year, on 10th December, St Mary’s Church of the Sloes are hosting a very special carol service. The Killarney Golf Club male Voice Choir, St Oliver’s National School Choir and the O Happy Days Ladies Choir are coming together for a fun-filled evening of carols. You’ll hear a great mixture of classics and more modern renditions of our festive favourites and singing along is encouraged!

Gift ideas

Finding that perfect gift for a loved one can be difficult. What can you get that’s unique, thoughtful and something you’re sure they’ll love? This year why not give the gift of luxury with a hotel voucher for Cahernane House Hotel in Killarney. Gifting a voucher gives the recipient the freedom to decide when they want to visit and if you’re lucky, they might even bring you along! The voucher can be spent on one of our accommodation packages, in our award-winning Herbert Restaurant or in our Cellar Bar.

If you know a couple who were married with us, or someone who has a special connection with Cahernane House, perhaps one of our very special, stuffed toy ducks would make the perfect gift. Read about the history of the duck here. For a smaller token, we do have a limited edition Cahernane pins to gift as a memory of a fantastic holiday in our beautiful hotel.

If you’re looking for a luxurious festive break this year, look no further than the beautiful Cahernane House Hotel.
